SUNY Upstate Medical University Institute for Human Performance (IHP) – 2013

The IHP project is an expansion/addition to the existing multi-story laboratory and research facility in downtown Syracuse that remained open during construction.

The large footprint has a parking garage at level 1, a Vivarium with cage wash and aquarium at level 2, 2A is an interstitial level for mechanicals supplying the Vivarium below, levels 3 and 4 are laboratories with offices on the ends and a two-story Atrium below a full-length skylight. A full length, 20’ high mechanical penthouse houses the mass of mechanical equipment and electrical switchgear and generator and the roof area contains 2 large cooling towers, laboratory exhaust fan stacks and heat recovery units. The balance of the roof area is covered with solar hot water heat panels.
